Magenta Sky Guardian Program

We are a small breeding program. Typically, only having one or two litters a year. We believe our breeding dogs should be first beloved family members who exhibit the best of health and temperament, and have the proven Cobberdog traits we want to pass onto future litters and ultimately, families. For this reason, we offer a guardian program for our breeding dogs so that after their retirement, they have wonderful homes and families they know and love, to live out their days with. The guardian program also ensures that the puppy is raised and trained by responsible owners as they work closely with us.
How does the Guardian Program work?
Individuals or families that join our Guardian Program will receive as their puppy,
the PICK - OF - THE - LITTER AT NO COST!
That's right, guardian homes get a free pick of the litter puppy. The pick of the litter is the puppy that has stood out above the the rest in regards to temperament, DNA results, coat and color, and possesses the qualities we have been working towards in our program. Notice color is placed last because the first requirements are most important .
If an individual or family would like to be part of this program, we will first have a series of phone conversations to see if the home and us are a good match, and by that we mean, does the home share the same values that we do at Magenta Sky. Included here is the agreement to a Guardian Program contract, so both the home and Magenta Sky have clearly understood the responsibilities and expectations.
This pick of the litter puppy will be cared for, trained by the guardian home as their own puppy. This means the home pays for all vet check ups, food, training, etc. Magenta Sky pays for any expenses required or related to breeding. We require guardian homes to have pet insurance for the duration that the dog is breeding. This ensures that if there is an accident or a health issues, the home has coverage to ensure the breeding dog gets the proper care required.
Magenta sky asks that this pick of the litter puppy be available for three/four litters, after which time Magenta Sky will pay for the spay/neuter, and transfer full ownership to the guardian home. The home may discontinue the pet insurance or keep it.
When this pick of the litter puppy reaches her second heat, we will be looking to breed her. At this time, the dog will come to us for breeding. Once breeding has taken place, the dog will return to the guardian family until 2-3 weeks prior to delivery and will remain with us for 8 weeks after puppies are born. Then the dog will return to the guardian home. I tell homes that this a great time to take that long vacation, and not need a pet sitter. Sometimes we may choose to breed back to back, meaning two heats in a row, but this would be discussed with the home. Also, at one point around a year, we would like the dog to come stay with us for about 6 weeks. This is so when whelping time comes, we are not strangers to each other.
From time to time we may acquire a stud puppy, a male, which we would also place in a guardian home. A stud puppy has a different role, so would only visit when we are looking to breed a female, or when he is being used by another breeder.
Homes that are in closer proximity to us here in Edmonton will be given priority, but in the end, we want the best family, and so we are happy to work out the distance details as well. We are happy to connect you with guardians already with us, so that you can hear first hand about the pros and cons. In addition to what's been mentioned here, there are also some other details involved, but these can be discussed later.
